Hive, Queen, and Country Shapeways Color Model Test

Here are some photos of test models and concept art made for the upcoming Hive, Queen, and Country supplement, currently titled Terry's All the Worlds' Flying Ships 1902.

These models (and other HQC models) are available through Shapeways 3D Printing service. (Shameless plug: along with over 600 other models through my Shapeways store: Objects May Appear....)

The material used for these is the 'Full Color Sandstone' which is printed with a Zcorp machine. The models have a slightly grainy texture which becomes apparent if lit from certain angles. That said, I was pretty impressed by the quality of the color and the resolution of the color and the print itself. You can even make out the individual knobs and dials on the control panels, fins on rockets, and the Imperial and Royal Coat of Arms printed on the side of a ship. I think this process holds great promise. While it won't be for everyone (I still enjoy painting ships myself), its impressive to see how this technology has come along. Most of these are 15mm scale.
